Each of the OEMs has at least one private proving ground, and each of the major Tier 1 suppliers has or has access to a proving ground. These proving grounds are secure and have road conditions and driving scenarios that can be safely used and provide reproducible test data.

As a Ford shareholder who counts three four-doors in his household fleet, I regard Dearborn's decision to discontinue nonluxury sedans as its dumbest since the Edsel, or at least since last year's firing of Mark Fields.
